Tizen Developer Summit Korea 2013… What You Missed Is Here!!

 

The Tizen Developer Summit 2013 was the 3rd Tizen conference, and the first one in Asia. It was held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Seoul ( Korea) past November 11th and 12th.

The Summit was a great success with over 700 attendees! The Room was Full!

This event brought together app developers and Tizen backers from Samsung, Intel and different mobile operators.

You could find companies like Orange, NTT Docomo, Marmalade, Sencha, ebay, Appbaker, Havok (with Project Anarchy), Here Maps, Matrix Engine for Tizen,

TuneIn radio and much more companies.

Even 36 new companies joined Tizen by this date!!  (Full List)

Mainly the conference was around the current status of Tizen and also the announcement of the moving dates for the Tizen App Challenge. Up to 4millon in prizes!!! Is something you must look for! (Link)

During this conference, Samsung gave more clues about how its first Tizen device would look and revealed that it has recently launched a Tizen-based camera in South Korea. The NX300M!

Tizen will also be compatible with other consumer electronics like Smart TV’s, Cars, even a fridge!  Samsung and Intel said Toyota Motor Corp. and Jaguar Land Rover are working together to bring Tizen OS to vehicles.

You can build an application once and relatively easily move from device to device”, Mark Skarpness, director of systems engineering at Intel Corp.

Samsung and Intel are also aiming to capture a bigger share of business in emerging markets where demand for cheaper smartphones is growing. Skarpness said, “future versions of Tizen will support lower-end phones.”

The conference was very exciting, loaded with all flavors. I was expecting to see Tizen 3.0 but they said we have to wait a bit.

Also, there were many training session on different topics like:

  • Tizen OS Architecture
  • Using App Backer to get your app scored
  • First Steps in creating a Mobile Game with Havok. (Project Anarchy)
  • Here Maps on Tizen. (from Nokia)
  • How to build Tizen HTML5 apps with SENCHA
  • Tizen IVI
  • Bringing android Apps to Tizen with OpenMobile (ACL)
  • Crosswalk (an open source Web Runtime developed by Intel).

If  you were a developer, there was a Developer Lab that helped you to start with the environment.

It took place from 2:30 pm to 5 pm and you could see some SDK overview, Design Principles, Native API development and Store validation process.

 

And last but not least, by the end of Monday (6 pm) the Hackathon started. People from Intel and Samsung where there to help with support and 90 people showed up the first day.

The Hackathon lasted until Tuesday where the apps were shown to the judges. The best 3 apps were chosen! Take a look at the Prizes.

  3. $1000.  Best ported App.

 

As you can see, Tizen is Alive and this event showed all the interest there is on this new OS! CES 2014 and MWC 2014 will be very interesting!!! :)
