New Development Experience for a Strengthened Application Ecosystem

Tizen 4.0 brings significant enhancements to the development environment: support for C# as an application programming language, Tizen .NET based on Microsoft's .NET Core and Xamarin.Forms, and Visual Studio Tools for Tizen. The C# programming language is one of the most widely used languages among app developers. Microsoft's .NET Core and Xamarin.Forms are useful frameworks for cross-platform development. Therefore, Tizen 4.0 provides Tizen developers with new experiences of cross-platform development. Moreover, to help developers with easy and efficient development, various tools for Tizen are released and integrated into Microsoft's Visual Studio.

Building an IoT Device Ecosystem

With Tizen 4.0, Tizen IoT Preview 1 is introduced. Tizen IoT(Internet of Things) is designed to be compact and lightweight for use with various types of IoT devices. This preview supports headed and headless modes, depending on whether the IoT device has a display or not. For now, two hardware platforms are supported: Raspberry Pi3 and Artik 530. Using the Tizen Studio 2.0 and Things SDK APIs, anyone can develop applications for IoT devices connected to the SmartThings Cloud and controlled by the Samsung Connect App.
