I have Samsung Ace 2 used for Android tests. Recently I received message about upgrade availability, and I succesfully upgraded Android 2.3.x to 4.1.2, along with the phone firmware.
Instead of Development Unit Program, the developers should have possibility to upload Tizen into their devices. Probably one or two selected inexpensive phone types can suffice.
- Developers often have many phones used for testing only, so Tizen test system don't need to be fully functional phone. It shoud be possible to re-download previous phone firmware, to bring back Android.
- Currently I think about creating one or two native programs, which uses GPS and Accelerometer. This cannot be tested on the emulator. I also don't know if I will have spare time for these projects. I suppose I won't the test phone from the DUP, but if I had a real Tizen in my hand, it would be a big temptation to launch the compiler and make some smart apps.
- There can be some errors in the test Tizen software, but aimed only for developers, this will be a small problem.
More enough, when the uploaded Tizen will get stability, it can be offered as a upgrade for existing phone owners. This could quickly deliver Tizen system to very large number of users, compared to selling new phones with Tizen.
Using system upgrade along with selling new phones, Tizen can reach big percentage of market share in small time. This would inspire more developers to port their applications to Tizen.
