Tizen emulator black on AMD Win10

Hey everyone,

I just got my gear s3 and I'm thinking about creating some simple apps. However I have zero experience in app development or coding. Right know I'm trying to recreate the guide on the developer site: "Creating Your First Tizen Wearable Native Widget Application"

I can't get the emulator to work. I open the "Emulator Manager", select the "Wearable 3" with default seetings and hit "Launch".
A Watch appears, but with a black screen. After a while some code appears, however I can't really read what it says, I think it ends on "Booting the kernel.".
The Device manager shows "No connected Devices"
 
 
My system is:
Windows 10 64bit
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
GPU: GTX 1070
 
I know that tizen recommends an intel cpu with something called HAXM, however is there a way to run the emulator without changing my specs?
And my "Wearable Circle"'s Plattform says: "wearable-3.0-circle-x86" <- could that be a problem, because my windows is 64bit?
 
I will gladly provide more information, please help :)

Hi,

You need to install HAXM. Follow this guide in this respect 
https://developer.tizen.org/development/tizen-studio/download/installing-tizen-studio/hardware-accelerated-execution-manager

You should fulfill all required prerequisites for the Tizen Studio. See this link:

https://developer.tizen.org/development/tizen-studio/download/installing-tizen-studio/prerequisites
For example:
Java Development Kit (JDK) Requirements:
You must install Java Development Kit (JDK) 8 to use the Tizen Studio. Do not install OpenJDK.

Check out other prerequisites also.

I can't install HAXM because I don't have an intel cpu.

Is HAXM mandatory for creating a tizen app?

HAXM is for creating emulator according to prerequisites for the Tizen Studio.

You should have it installed to test your app in emulator. You can creati tizen app

without it and test it in a real device.

My machine is X1-Carbon - 16G Ram. I7-7500U cpu

Have tried the following, but none works:

 

  1. VT is enabled in BIOS.
  2. Execute Disable Bit is enabled by default in Lenovo latest bio. So, that option is no longer available in my thinkpad bios. 
  3. Data Execution Prevention is enabled in Windows
  4. Hyper-V is not enables as I don’t even have  that as an enable option as it is only available for Pro and Enterprise version. Mine is not.
  5. Resinstall HAXM driver
  6. Restart my machine a couple times
  7. recreate the emulator module
  8. tried all combination of gpu and cpu-vt on and/or off.

None worked.

Then, I looked into emulator log, I noticed  the following constantly repeat itself:

I did an upgrade from window 10 device manager, it did not fix the issue.

Then, I went online to Intel : https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-hardware-accelerated-execution-manager-intel-haxm 

Download directy from that site.  Now, it works!!! My goodness!

The moral of this past 3 hours of trouble shooting around is "not" to trust the update from windows! :-/

Elizabeth, Is it still works?

I try all during  a few months. Make  a few threats- No answer, silens, I think it is bug into Tizen Studio.

Sometime  emulators works ( if  GPU is off) - sometime - not works.

The same problem happens on my AMD machine:
Ryzen 2700

However, the emulator works on my laptop with Intel i7 7500U. 

Reading the comments it seems that no one bothers to solve this emulator issue.

This is still an issue on my machine with the exact same errors on the emulator. I'm using an AMD Ryzen 2700X and it is apparent that this is due to my processor not supporting the Intel virtualisation that the emulator requires.
