Building a Tizen Device From Scratch

In this session, Leon Anavi will share the "getting started" directions for creating a DIY (do-it-yourself) Tizen device with hardware & software. A walk through of the Tizen architecture, platform development and compatibility requirements for the hardware will be provided.

Tizen is a Linux-based software platform which combines cutting edge open source technologies such as Wayland and the Crosswalk project with open standards such as HTML5. Tizen comes in different flavors and supports variety of devices depending on their purposes and form factors. It is suitable for vehicles, wearable and mobile devices as well as any other Internet of things (IoT).

The Tizen software platform is compatible with both ARM and Intel architectures. It can run on open-source hardware development boards like MinnowBoard MAX, OLinuXino, and Radxa Rock. The affordable prices and the open licenses make any of these boards a recommended solution for startup companies and individual developers who are interested in low cost prototyping of Tizen devices.

Tizen 3 is under an open governance and so far IVI, TV, mobile, and wearable profiles are available. In this session you will learn how to build an image of a Tizen profile from scratch using GBS or the Yocto project. Information about the possibilities to extend Tizen:Common and to create your very own Tizen profile will be also shared.
