What does the proximity sensor do (Gear S2)

Hey guys,

i made an app that simply plays a sound everytime the proximity sensor is changed from "ON" to "OFF".

It works perfecetly fine in the emulator, but what exactly does the proximity sensor do on the real smartwatch? What is "ON" and "OFF"?

Thanks in advance

Proximity sensor is used to detect the presence (objects are far or near) of nearby objects/obstacles without any physical contact.

One example usage of proximity sensor in mobile phones is detecting face-proximity when a person is on a phone conversion. If detected the phone screen is turned off to save power.

Like I said, it is used to detect any blocking object over the phone screen. You can use it to your advantage if you want to trigger an action if an object (palm, covering obstacle etc.) is detected over your screen.

On and off means if the sensor is on (ready to get data) or off.
