Update Tizen device from 2.1 to 2.2

Hello, somebody with experience updating Tizen device from 2.1 to 2.2 from Windows? I was forwarded by a forums member to a thor download link. Unzziped, executed application but it does nothing, it's just a window with blank input fields and a start button that does nothing. Need advice to flash device and be able to test app on it.

Thank you, your help will be appreciated.

Hi Alfredo,

You can find the installation guidelines here https://wiki.tizen.org/wiki/Flash_Tizen_2.2_Image_to_Reference_Device. You need to install lthor in order to flash the device.

Please be sure to install mali ddk in order to enable hardware acceleration on the device https://wiki.tizen.org/wiki/Enable_3D_Acceleration_on_Tizen. Hope this helps.

I've come across that info before but:

1. It doesn't says what to do with the .tar and .gz files. Unpack? then what? or just double click or what? Love instructions made by people for themselves and expect everyone else read their minds and come up with the details.

2. Where to get lthor? It is a complete mystery where to get it and worse yet how to use it. Unziped and run a copy somebody sent me. It's just a white window with empty fields and a start button that does nothing.

I would like the details please. :)

Thank you!

Hi Alfredo,

Apologies for the confusion occured.

In the documentation on Tizen wiki, under the requirements section you can find

You can also find information regarding development tools in https://source.tizen.org/documentation/developer-guide/installing-development-tools.

The documentation in source Tizen site clearly explains the installation of lthor tool. https://source.tizen.org/documentation/reference/flash-device

lthor is a simple tool, you just need to pass the tar files as arguments in order to flash the image.

eg:

lthor Tizen_RD-PQ_System_20130716_1.tar tizen-2.2_20130719.3_RD-PQ-REF.tar.gz

Please feel free to get back if you are still facing issues.

Thank you Raghu, and I apologize for being this rude.

Well, checked the info, and all this is related to Linux not Windows.

I'll try to work as far as possible with the simulator (as the emulator has issues). Or come back to Tizen as Windows tools are a little better supported.

Thanks for the info anyway!

Hi Alfredo,

Sorry for the confusion, currently these tools are only supported on Linux.

No idea why. But Samsung offers there Windows Thor only registered Portdingensbumens users... See here: http://www.tizenportathon.com/bada/board/technicalResources.do Second problem... In this Forum it is not possible/allowed to search for... Otherwise you would find, that few Threads contain infos + Download Link for Windows Firmware Installer 2.2... Maybe use Google. No idea why here are only Linux users... instead work together Windows + Linux users... Tizen is at the moment really strange... Best Regards

Uh oh, surprice... Search function found here in forum. Thanx for this. About Windows Update... 2_1_0_public.zip This file was first public available, without Registration... 2.1 WiFi Update for Windows... Now only registred User can download latest 2.2 for Windows... RD_PQ_REF_RSA_2_2_0_RC11_WiFi.zip Maybe someone could ask Samsung, because new Registration is impossible... As http://www.tizenportathon.com is "finsished"... Best Regards

Yeah well this is very strange, Tizen allows for the SDK to be downloaded and installed on Windows but tools for flashing devices aren't available. Emulator has problems also. Already Googled a lot and found nothing.

We're shuting down all Tizen app development right now and may be come back in the future when Windows tools are better supported, if ever.

It's a real shame since we wanted to register an app for the challenge but we're unable to test.

Thank you all for your support.

You can try to build bootable USB-drive with lthor preinstalled and use it: https://developer.tizen.org/forums/sdk-ide/tizen-sdk-live-dvd

There is no way to do the installation over Windows* platforms...i belive. Instead of that, i was thinking that it may be a possiblity to flash the device with WIndows, by smb(correct me if im completely mad, experts), uploading, by shell, the image to the device from the PC, the tar.gz i mean and then descompress the files and install with rpm...we could advanced a lot if we could see LTHOR source code...i dont now if it is public...ANYWAY something to try...

QUESTION

I ve done using KALI LINUX USB PERSISTENT device...

Working with RD-PQ model device, and upgrading to http://download.tizen.org/snapshots/2.2/common/tizen-2.2_20130815.2/images/RD-PQ/ the last released version of 2.2 magnolia, i think, please correct me if im wrong and this is not the most recent released or is not stable...etc (NOTE> Before trying this one, ive tried all of the recommended ones that are supposed to work in docs like this https://wiki.tizen.org/wiki/OSDev/Flashing_to_device)

The problem is when im done, and the upgraded firmware is running on the device, it is supposed that on 2.2,  hardware buttons must run, but the left one doesnt work at all, and the right one works at the starting point and, sometimes, suddenly, turns off...and i must reboot the app

I have reported all of these troubles to INTEL team, waiting response...guys, can you aport something?? same troubles??? have you tried this version of the firmware on this device model???

THanks in advance.
