Should I go for 2.3 or 2.4?

Hello, new Tizen developer here. As the title said, I'm wondering whether I should go for 2.3 or3.4 as the minimum. I understand that Z1 is 2.3, but how many people are using it as opposed to 2.4?

Also, in which country are the Tizen smartphones most popular? South Korea?

Thanks in advance for your answers

Hi Mario,

All Tizen phones run Tizen 2.4 but on Z1 and Z3 a user must update it.

(Z2 comes with 2.4 installed)

so the percentage of 2.4 users is constantly growing

Tizen phones are sold in Asia and Africa, main countries are probably India, Indonesia, South Africa, Nigeria

Tizen phones are not sold in Korea, Japan and China

So, if I were to make a new app now, I should still go with 2.3? Or is the growth rate of 2.4 is such that it's already safe to simply ignore 2.3?

I would go with 2.4:

Z2 is the most important phone: it's distributed in Asia and Africa since August 2016;

All Z2 phones have 2.4, so that's certainly a safe bet: a Z1 user who's still on 2.3 will probably ignore your app anyway...

Thank you for the reply Oliver. I'll go with 2.4 then. You raised some good points there. And I actually prefer to develop for 2.4 anyway (if I don't have to support 2.3, which as your reply suggested, I don't have to), TAU is better.

I just noticed that this forum has an answered/unanswered mechanics that is similar to SO, so I'll mark your post as answer.

forgot (2): if a big app like whatsapp doesn't work on 2.3 anymore, almost everyone will switch to 2.4 instantly ;)
