Tizen App Challenge
We are very pleased to announce the winners of the Tizen App Challenge, a contest that awarded over $4M in prizes to app developers. 54 prizes were awarded to top ranked Tizen apps across 9 categories. In addition, the top rated HTML5 apps received $50,000 each. We were very impressed with the breadth, quality, and quantity of the submissions. In fact, it took a great deal of effort to narrow down the winners, particularly in the games categories.

Silicon Valley Tizen Hackathon
We gathered friday evening at Enerspace Palo Alto and we asked you to develop apps and possibly win a prize — Up to $1000 for best app. Apps could be original or ported to Tizen.  Only two rules, the app had to run on the RD-PQ development phone, and you had to complete it and demo it for the judges by Saturday at six pm.

Tizen App Challenge Extends Deadline!
Looking for more time to certify your app in the Tizen Store to enter the Tizen App Challenge? Want to port a few more apps to Tizen using new middleware tools like Construct 2, Marmalade SDK, Project Anarchy™ by Havok™, among many others? Great news... the Tizen App Challenge is extending its deadline by one month to Dec. 8, 2013, at 11:59pm PST. This means you have 4 more weeks for a chance at $4+ million.  "We've been really impressed with the flurry of new developer tools and activities in support of Tizen," said Brian Warner, Senior Member Services Manager for Linux Foundation Collaboration Projects. My First Hackathon : A developers view of the Tizen New York event.
Monique Virgilio describes herself on her blog as a Creative Digital Solutions Leader and has written a short article cataloging her experiences at her first hackathon, which was our recent Tizen event in Brooklyn at the HugeInc co-operative workspace. This event, and her experiences are reasonably typical of the events we are holding in the US. Our hackathons in Paris and Madrid seem to have more champagne, judging from the twitter posts but the quality of the apps seem equivalent.

Tizen Developer Spotlight: How Two Hackers Are Building The Future of Mobile Linux
The Tizen App Challenge’s $4+ million is by far the big kahuna right now, but plenty of smaller prize opportunities are available to mobile developers. Designed to jumpstart the Tizen ecosystem, a number of hack-a-thons with jackpots are cropping up across the country. Dedicated Tizen developers Jakob Perry and Emilie Nouveau recently won a runner-up reward for their hybrid in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) app called Boomzbox. Jakob’s daytime hours are spent at Acquia as a senior software engineer, while Emilie works at MongoDB as a web developer.  Our Q&A with Jakob and Emilie talks about their winning Tizen app, the hack’s vibe and what they find most exciting about Tizen. What did you think of the hack-a-thon? Can you describe the atmosphere and audience?
